We had an earthquake this morning. REally???? Here in my town it sounded like a huge explosion. I was just finishing up breakfast when it hit. I thought it was a gas or house explosion. It was loud and continued on for about 10 seconds. Wow!! I liked a friend's comment on facebook...

"...is happy you're OK! A reminder that Jesus will come in the twinkling of an eye! Blessings & Love!"

Allergies are really getting to me this year. I usually don't have much trouble while my husband is usually always miserable. I heard this has been the worst year ever in Oklahoma for allergies. Yea!! They said on the news that it is because the trees bloomed so early this year. I don't think I have ever been so "sneezy" in all my life. Why does it seem worse at night too? You know, you lay your head down to go to sleep then you wake up at some point and can't breathe through your nose. I try flipping over and then I can't breathe through the other side and the battle goes on and on. I'm sorry for those that constantly deal with allergies!! Achoo!!

Just posting a picture of some of the ice that came through with our last winter snow storm. This was looking out of one of our side windows. The kids were able to return to school finally. They will have to do make up days for some of the ones they missed. Now we are expecting to get more snow tomorrow...BRRRRRR!!!!

Love is In The Air

I know I haven't posted anything in a while but it has been quite busy around our house.We had an interesting ending and beginning to the new year also.

We got snowed in for Christmas but it was really a blessing. We couldn't go anywhere so we had our own little family Christmas. We missed visiting with other family members but most were not able to arrive into town anyway. It was so nice to have a quiet Christmas eve with just my husband and kids!! We pretty much had a blizzard. I don't think the snow melted off for a month either. Quite a mess. We always do wish for a white Christmas and this year we got our wish. The kids had a ball building snowmen and pelting me with snowballs.

I am quite the mushy person. I am already looking forward to Valentine's Day. I am looking for some cute things to make with the kids. I love searching for things on Etsy. Have you ever visited Etsy? I love it!!

Ouch!!

I am not sure what came over me this week like it wasn't busy enough already. Monday I decided to go to the base and get my free swine flu mist. Got there, no line!! Woo Hoo!! As I was sitting there I was reading the signs on the wall and it came to me that I had not had a tetanus shot in about 12 years or even longer. I decided to get that too while I was there. It's a good thing we only need them every 10 years. Today is Friday and I still have a huge painful lump in my arm. I forgot how bad these shots can hurt and linger hurting!! The guy that gave it to me did a wonderful job as far as I could tell. I never even felt the needle enter my arm. Well, about 5 seconds after that I could feel the hurting. It has been hard to sleep at night cuz I can't lay on that side very well unless I do some arm contortions so I don't press on that area. Why is it that when you have a painful area, everyone in the family is drawn to hugging that area or hitting it? Ouch!! Well, anyway it really hurts. Do I sound like I could use some sympathy?

Needless to say, with all the school activities, Christmas parties, and painful shots, I haven't sewn much but I am going to very soon!!!! I need to sew, it's my escape!! XOXO

I am getting so excited about Christmas!! The weather is getting cooler so that helps it sink in how fast it's going to be here. Snow is predicted for tomorrow but I don't believe it. The kids came home from school and got their advent calendars so they are jumping with joy. We got them the normal chocolate one and this year we also bought them Lego advent calendars. Do you think they would mind if I peek at tomorrow's little Lego toy ahead of time or steal a piece of chocolate????HA I am in a super sewing mood too!! I want to make scarves and warm quilts and OH!! I just can't stand it!! I love the holidays!! xoxoxoxoxo

Today my husband was off work for Veteran's Day. We had a fun day together. We ate lunch at Chili's and they gave him his lunch for free since he's a veteran. Wow!! That was wonderful. Thanks to all active duty military and veterans!! Especially to all of our friends that are still active duty. We miss you!!

Apple Pie

I made this apple pie over the weekend. A friend of mine gave me the leaf shape cutter. It is from William Sonoma and comes with several shapes. I didn't get that fancy but I love the leaves. I'm not sure it would win a prize at the state fair but it sure tasted good!!

Visit to the Oklahoma State Fair

Yesterday afternoon was free military day at the OK State Fair. We went after school for a bit and the weather was beautiful. It had rained all morning though so we had to treck through a bit of mud to get to the entrance.

We had fun riding in the space tower. I do like riding up in it but I am always glad to get back to the ground. I forget how high up it goes. You can see across the entire city. I will post some pictures I took from up there. They are pretty cool.

I also had to go to the fair to see my grandma's winning sweet pickles. She won 3rd place. Now for the good part... She just happens to be 95 years old!!

Bad Storms and Kids in School

The weather men are predicting bad weather and storms this afternoon for our area. Oh, and giant hail. I hate it when the kids are in school and bad weather strikes. It makes me very uneasy. Last year an awful storm came out of no where. I found out it was very close so I flew up to the kids' schools and got them. We were driving home (as safely as possible) with a storm right on our tails. We drove into the garage and ran right down to the tornado shelter. I think we spent the next 2 hours down there. We had 3 tornadoes come through the same path over that time period. Just about the time we would come out and get a drink and go to the bathroom we had to run back down. Thankfully my kids were home with me so I wouldn't have to wonder about their safety. Right by their school one storm took down all the power poles. The kids that remained at school weren't released until hours later. I will definitely have my ears to the weather reports today...

Today I am trying to deal with a minor health insurance issue. We keep receiving a bill from the same company every month. I call them every month. I note the answers I get. They give me different answers every time I call. We do not owe it. It should be closed. I call my insurance. They tell me we don't owe it. I call the billing company. They say we owe it. I call the doctor's office. They transfer me. I reach a live person. She deals with commercial insurance but says it's closed and we don't owe it. She transfers me to someone else. They are out to lunch. I leave a message. I wait...

All this for a $29.00 bill that I don't even owe. I just want it resolved. How do people have time to deal with this stuff? It's crazy!!

Summer

I noticed I haven't written anything in a couple of weeks. The heat I think has just sort of taken over everything. We were having temperatures around 108 and it just wore on all of us. It was hot outside and hot inside. The temp has dropped a little and it makes a lot of difference. A couple of days ago we had a hail storm that came out of nowhere. It was a total surprise.

Today I am thankful for cooler weather and sometimes cloudy days, the flowers, our backyard garden, our children even when they pick at each other and get on my nerves, my husband, that he has a nice job, friends that live far away and that I miss today, and finally pretty Christmas fabric that I have been eyeing on Etsy!! What are you thankful for? Thanks for stopping by. I hope you are having a great summer!!

Happy 4th of July!! We don't have any big plans which is actually nice. We hope to watch a few fireworks and enjoy our time together as a family. The base isn't having a fireworks show and I am happy because my husband would just have to work.ha We have spent many years going to Air Force Base fireworks shows only to have him working or I also worked before the kids were born in some booth or other helping raise money. It was always sunny, hot, and WINDY!! Thank you to all of those who are serving in the military or have children or spouses in the military and for those that have served in the past. On Sunday our church had a special recognition ceremony and my husband stood up during the Air Force song. It made me very proud. I even got a little sappy...

Ok, yes I know I haven't blogged in a while. It seems when it rains it pours. Between squeezing in the appts I already had before the kids get out of school I have had some other things pop up. About 2 weeks ago my husband and I were playing foozball with my kids and my son was eating crackers. I just had to have one. When I ate it I instantly broke one of my back teeth. Darn wheat cracker. Can you believe it? Well, I guess the tooth was weakened from an old filling. I made an appt and I found out I had to get a crown on it. I got it fixed with a temporary crown but then it became very uncomfortble so I made another appt. to get it checked. Sure enough it came right off so I had to get another temporary one made. Now in about another week I will have to go back and get the permanent one put on. Let's hope it fits. It's stuff like this that can really drive me crazy. Here I was going to spend some quiet time going to the places I love and now I have spent most of the week doing other things. Ok, let's try a little reverse psychology. I am NOT going to squeeze in any fun places the next few days...

It's hard to believe how fast this month is going. I can't believe it's almost time for the kids to be out of school. I am trying to squish everything in that I need to get done before they are out. I don't want them to have to tag along on my boring tasks so I am trying to get most of the "boring" things done. Of course unless it's going to the "toy" store or going somewhere they want to go, it's borrrrrring.ha Here are a few places I love that they think are boring...

Ok, when I joked about it snowing for Easter, I really didn't think it would snow. Guess what? We are predicted to get snow this Friday and Saturday. I can't stop laughing. It is always cold here on Easter. But I HOPE it's not going to be that cold!! Our winter was all warm and goofy and now that it's spring we are gonna have snow? Great.

HOW many crayons can one household have? A lot apparently. I was cleaning up a bit in the kids craft stuff and I started realizing how many crayons we really have. Boxes and Boxes of them and most of them are pieces. I guess it comes from having to buy new ones for school each year and from throwing all of the old used and broken ones into plastic storage boxes. I guess I should melt them down or something.LOL

This morning I am doing mounds of laundry, watching the Today show, and trying to sew a bit. I also need to eat breakfast. I need to think of some new good things to eat for breakfast versus the same old stuff. My problem is that I am not a good breakfast maker. Probably cuz I'm also not a morning person. Anyway, it's best if it's something that can't be burned. Just a note, I am a good lunch and dinner maker, just NOT breakfast. Ok, off to scour the kitchen...O:)

Spring Break

This week we are trying to enjoy spring break. Kid 2 is getting over strep and both kid 1 and I have had some upper respiratory thing. Now my DH is starting to complain a little about how he feels. Gotta love vacations! At least we aren't on vacation on some beach somewhere feeling miserable I suppose. Although it probably has some to do with our up and down weather, I'll be glad when school gets out and the kids are away from school germs. Did I just say I'd be glad when the kids get out of school?haha Have a great weekend!!

The weather is very warm for our spring break. I know it's just trying to trick us. When I was a little girl my grandma would make me the cutest Easter dresses (thank goodness for capes). The weather would always turn windy and cold and we would freeze to death on Easter. I believe it's supposed to hit into the 80's today. You just watch, when Easter gets here it'll be freezing again. I keep trying to warn my husband too because he is itching to plant the rest of the summer garden. No honey, not until after Easter!!

I can't believe how gorgeous it is outside today on this Sunday afternoon!! I wish I had spent all day outside.

Instead, I am confessing that I spent most of today in my pajamas. Instead of getting out and going to church we decided to stay home to have a nice quiet day. Let's see, staying home, hair all messed up, still in pajamas...someone decides to stop by.LOL One of our neighbors who I haven't talked to in probably 3 months decided to stop and ring the door bell seeing that my husband is outside. I ran and grabbed some clothes trying to be discreet. My child comes running through the house to find me stomping on the floor right passed the front door yelling, "Mom, Mrs. So and So is at the door!!" Well, discreet is now over. I get my clothes quickly and I go outside to catch her. The neighbor is talking to my husband who is telling her that I am still in my pajamas. Thanks DH. I would have preferred that he make up a story like, Oh, my wife is in the house preparing a great dinner, or my wife is busy on a long distance phone call, or let me check!! No, now my neighbor thinks I run around in the house all day long in my pajamas. AAAckkk!! OH well. Sometimes it's good to wear pajamas all day. It was a rare occasion. Now I no longer have on my jammies so I guess I will go outside!!

Good Morning/Laundry Day

Good morning!! It has been a busy morning for me already. How about you? Let's see, so far, I have gotten the kids off to school, called my insurance company 3 times, called to make appts for the eye doctor check ups, called my doctor's office, called the insurance company again (why can't they give me the same answer more than once?), cancelled another appt (because of my insurance company), and now I am headed to do mounds of laundry. Yes!! I joined this birthday card swap and I need to finish my cards. My cards are now officially going to be late so I feel bad about that but that is how it goes I guess. Kid 2 was sick last week with an ear infection of all things. I think it's a sinus infection too. I took a few minutes to check out other blogs that I like and I really wish I had time to sew today. That would be awesome. Guess it depends on that mound of laundry waiting on me. Wish me luck...

American Idol

Was it just me or did American Idol really stink tonight? I think that is the worst episode I have ever seen. Was I just in a weird mood? I don't think so. I did rush through it on the DVR but even what I saw was not worth watching. My favorite singer was the last guy. I can't even remember his name right now. I was really hoping he would knock my socks off. Let's see. Nope, socks still on.

We love to get mail!!

Today is Monday and a federal holiday. I miss the mail on holidays when it doesn't get delivered. It would probably just be something boring but it's like getting a little gift in the mailbox every day. Yes, we get bills just like everyone else but sometimes there might actually be a letter from someone in there!! I love the mail at Christmas because we hear from so many of our old friends that we don't normally talk to during the year. Especially old military friends. I hear that postage is going up and that stinks. I also hear that we may lose a day of mailing and that really stinks. I personally hope is doesn't pass. I've decided that any catalogs and junk mail I get this year, I will call that company and tell them to take me off of their mailing list. I'm only one person but maybe if we all do it we can stop some of the junk that clogs up the system. Anyway, keep sending those you love, letters in the mail. We love to get mail!!

This cold and icy weather is making me/us stir crazy. How many more drawers and closets can I possibly clean out? I am really surprised, but schools will be out again tomorrow. Ok Ok I know I haven't blogged or changed my songs lately but I am going to do that here in a few minutes. As for Mama Mia, I thought it was Okay. Don't be mad at me if you LOVED it, but I thought it was just OKAY. Frankly I got a little tired of all the singing. I wanted more ROMANCE. I needed more romance. Maybe I was just a little cranky while watching it or did I miss something?

We are officially freezing here. The ground is super slick and it's very cold. Brrrrrr. I am back in my long underwear again. Does that remind you of a song?haha Being a Miss Smarty Pants, I ran to the store this morning ignoring that the bad weather was coming. Lo and Behold it hit while I was in the store. Thankfully I had the nice bagger boy, well, bagger man, help me out. He wasn't too happy about it. Anyway, I had to cling to the buggy the whole time so I wouldn't fall on my fanny on the way to my car. It is unbelieveably slick out. Slip Sliding awayyyyyyyyyyyy...

Mamma Mia...

Mamma Mia!! I have been dying to say that. I was in Walmart World the other day and I could not resist buying the movie Mamma Mia. They had it strategically placed right in the front door. Go figure. I have heard many people say that they love the movie. Well, I will let you know what I think after I get the chance to watch it. How many of you like this movie? I think I will place a poll here on my blog before I watch it. Which will probably not be for a while yet during this busy season but I will cross my fingers...I can't wait!!

Sewing

I am sewing today. I just love it. I love the smell of new fabric. Is that weird?

I am relieved to have some packages delivered to the post office. I mailed them yesterday and now I can think about other things. I got them all wrapped up, weighed them, labeled them and lugged them into the post office. It was packed in there of course. I happily walked in and dropped them into the big drop box. People were giving me the mad stare down for looking so happy and for not having to stand in the mile long line. Yea, it took me a bit to get everything done but it was well worth doing it myself versus standing in those horrible lines. Buying a shipping scale at Sam's was well worth it. If you can afford it, buy one!! You too will have a smile on your face...

Christmas is coming...

Can you believe Christmas will soon be here?? I can't wait. I actually got a Christmas card from a military friend already. She and her family are stationed in North Dakota so I guess it has felt like Christmas there for a long time. I can't imagine how cold it must be.

It's getting a little chilly...

It's getting a little chilly around here. I have been looking forward to fall. I think it went straight from summer to winter. I like sleeping under an electric blanket and I just put ours on yesterday. I didn't use it last winter and I darn near froze to death. I just slept under a pile of blankets. When I hit my 40's my body temperature in the winter dropped below freezing. I decided to wash the sheets so while I was at it I just threw that little toasty warmer on there too. I almost forgot to put it on after all that washing. I went to throw the comforter on and a light bulb went off and reminded me to put the blanket on first. Thank goodness. I think my mind started to go at 40 too.LOL Oh well. Stay warm and enjoy the Fall.

Gotta L O V E Vacations!!

We just recently took a few days off to have some fun. The kids were out of school for fall break. We decided to go and visit relatives and have a little fun on the way. Why do things always go awry when you are trying to make sure everyone has a great time? The night before we left my husband didn't feel well so I thought for sure we would not be going. Well, we left anyway the next day. We stopped at a Great Wolfe Lodge and I was really enjoying the fun. I got right in there and did what any "kid" would do. I was dumping water on people's heads (LOL, you can understand if you have ever been to one of these places), floating down the lazy river on my innertube and then...I went down the slide. I must have wrenched my neck while sliding through the dark because my neck really started to hurt by the time we got done swimming that night. Of course this was just the beginning of our "big fun vacaction" so I am thinking "Yea, this is gonna be a blast". To those that have ever pinched a nerve in their neck I know you can sympathize. It's the kind that makes you turn your entire shoulders to look around and it lasts about 3 days. There is really nothing you can do but sit and be miserable. Well while were at the relatives I pretty much sat with a hot pack around my neck. When we were on the way home we stayed at a hotel at a military base. It was nearby my sister and family so we made a point to stop there and visit with them. I noticed our older son moping around. I thought it was unusual as the cousins always have a blast together. Well, he announced he felt barfy and you know how that turned out. Come to find out, after we get home, my husband has a sinus infection and now our younger son is getting a sore throat. Remember, we are having BIG FUN here. One thing vacations always remind me of, "It's good to be home!!"...

Hello. I can't believe it has been so long since I have checked in. I thought when school started I would have more time but nope. As some of you know I am not much of a morning person so it has been a difficult transistion having to get up early and act like a normal human. I hate mornings. I have to d r a g myself up early when that stinkin alarm goes off. Then I mope around all day in a weird haze waiting for night time to roll around when suddenly I wake up, my body temperature rises and I feel wonderful. Then it's time for bed. I hate that!! Please don't even get my little redheaded temper started on the DMV. Get this Marva, in Missouri, they won't even accept a military I.D. as proof of being a United States citizen. They also require that you bring your stamped receipt as proof of property tax payment. The last time we were there it was dreadful. Thankfully, we walked (stomped) out of there and got Oklahoma licenses. We only had to wait 3 hours to get one here. Don't even get me started!!

I had an issue today with my paypal account. I miss the days when you could call a place and get a real person and especially one in the good ole U.S.A. I logged into my account and when an issue arose I decided I would call paypal for help. Yea, uhuh. Have you tried calling them lately or anywhere for that matter. Well, first of all I had to log into my account and get this little 6 number code that authorized me or identified who I was when I was calling. That way when the customer person accessed my account they could help me better supposedly. Well, the first lady I got was located somewhere in India and hardly spoke any English. She had no idea what I was trying to explain to her. She was very nice and found me to be very friendly so instead of helping me she started inquiring about me and my age and how I came to be so friendly. She kept giving me canned answers right out the training volume 101. I was really struggling about how I was going to get this lady to help me or if I would have to abruptly end the call. She finally gave me an out and I was able to hang up. Well, next I logged back in and got my new code so I could call again. You won't believe it. I think I got some guy in France. He had a very thick accent and never could answer to why I was having problems. I used to be able to call and get answers quickly and easily. Now I get more frustrated than ever just getting by the robot operator. I tend to just hold down the zero button so I don't have to go through the whole list of things I don't want. I just want a customer service person. Maybe my punishment for bypassing the machine is to send me off to a foreign operator in training. Oh well, maybe I will try again tomorrow. I really don't have a problem with who helps me just as long as they can actually help me. Maybe I will reach someone in Australia next. Can someone just please help me?

Happy belated 4th everyone. I just love the 4th of July. We went to watch some local fireworks last night and they were totally awesome. We learned to take our radio so we can hear the music that goes along with the fireworks and that made it even more fun. There was only one glitch to the radio thing. We took our wind up emergency radio cuz it is so small and I had to sit and wind it all night.LOL Next time I will wind it more ahead of time and put in some back up batteries. It was still fun. I am like a kid and enjoyed it as much as the boys I think. Have a great weekend...

I would just like to say thanks to all of those drivers that really like looking at my rear bumper up close. It must be mighty perty. There are so many people that like to get right up there and take a good look. Maybe it is that cute little American Flag magnet that says Air Force Spouse or something. Maybe they can't read it and have to get up close. Let me first say that I am no slow poke on the road by any means. I am getting real tired of people riding my bumper down the highway. The kids and I ran out to the base today to eat lunch and bowl with my husband and I can't tell you how many people I had on my bumper. Most of them were on their cell phones too. I wish I had their number so I could call them up or text them a nice little message like "GET OFF MY BUMPER!!", to put it nicely. My husband and I sometimes wish we had a car like the one in the movie "Mad Max". Then I would take care of them... Until then, I will try to control myself but it is reallyyyyy hard!!

Yard of the Month

This isn't the greatest picture as it was toward the end of the month but we won yard of the month for our neighborhood!! It was a nice surprise when we won this!! We love to fix up our yard and make it pretty every year. My husband deserves most the credit but I do try and help plant flowers and trim things now and then. Oh and pick the weeds and water when needed. We are know for winning yard ot the month at all the different places (on and off base) that we have lived over the years. It was still a big surprise...

Well, thankfully we just got pouring rain this last time. I believe we got between 3 and 4 inches in a short time. At night of course. When it is loud and wakes up the kids. My gma south of here got like 7 inches of rain. Wow!! Thankfully we didn't get that much. My husband's garden would have washed clean away with that much. I must say the garden was very happy. Everything was reaching toward the sky after that soaking...

Well, the weather is predicted to get dicey here again this afternoon. I don't know if I can stand to get down into our tornado shelter one more time this year. It is nice to have but it's not a place I really enjoy climbing down into. The last couple of times we had to get down in there it was in the middle of the night of course. I twisted my ankle and jammed my husband's glasses into his face. Then next time, I missed the last step AGAIN while in a hurry and hurt my back and almost twisted my husband's arm off. Poor guy. I bet he doesn't look forward to getting back in there any time soon either.ha I am hoping and praying the weather casters are wrong and it will miss our whole area. Please pray for us too. Normally we might get in there 1 or 2 times in a year and I bet we have been down in our shelter about 5 times. I hope the boys are getting too traumatized by all of this. They are usually sound to sleep too when they have to wake up and run down there. I am just glad we have great information when bad storms are in our area. It is amazing how you can watch pretty much to the street where the heavy rain, hail and possible tornadoes are. I just hope and pray for no bad weather this afternoon or tonight. Please!!!!

The kids have been out of school here in Oklahoma for over a week. I am just hoping the "I'm Bored" doesn't start for a while. We are already starting to fight for time on the computer. Don't these little creatures understand that this is MY computer? Not theirs. I have to keep reminding them that the days aren't supposed to be filled with them being on "MY" computer, playing the gameboys and t.v. games. They normally like to go outside but prefer to go out in the evening when it is cooler. Can't blame them there!! I just get tired of the t.v. being on so much. Guess we will have to break out the playdough. You can never get too old for making playdough can you? Let's hope not...

Our neighborhood pool opened today. My youngest son is sooooo happy. I call him Fish boy. He loves swimming. Funny thing is, when he was little, he took swim lessons but refused to get into the pool. He didn't kick or scream or anything but the girl at the Y would get to him for his turn and ask him if he wanted to get in. Nope, he would just shake his head no and she would pass him. I had to walk in there and tell them to get him in. Afterall, swim lessons don't come cheap. Well, now that he has taken a liking to swimming I have to pretty much drag him out of he pool. Today there was a big opening party with moonbounces, food, music. The best part was seeing the smile on my son's face. It was a beautiful day.

Bon Jovi and Chris Daughtry Concert

About a month ago my husband and I went to a concert. I am finally getting the pictures up. We got to see Bon Jovi and Chris Daughtry was the opener. It was so much fun. I felt like I was in highschool again. I think my husband even had fun too. I sort of dragged him there but he went without the sceaming. They both put on quite a concert. I was pretty surprised how long it lasted. I had talked to a friend before we left and she suggested we take ear plugs. Wowwwwwweeeee Zowwwweeeee!! I grabbed some out of my husband's drawer that he has for work. Thank goodness. Yes, I know it was a concert but it was loud. Very loud. I wore the plugs for the first half and when my hearing had pretty much gone numb anyway, I took them out for the rest of the time. I got some good pictures even from where we were sitting. Ok, one of my biggest peaves happened to me yesterday. I love to go to Hobby Lobby. I am probably in there 2 or 3 times a week. I hate though how they have many checkout lanes and no way to direct customers. It seems every time I get ready to check out, the rest of the people in the store have the same idea. Yesterday I grabbed a couple of things I needed and proceeded to the register. I got into line and all of the sudden this "olderish" lady approached me and asked if I was in line. I wanted to say, "Um, YEA that is why I am standing here isn't it?" but instead I quietly said yes and she acted sort of rude. Of course right then some teenage looking clerk came up all of the sudden and opened her register and everyone including the older lady bum rushed me over to her. Well, the old lady had a return so the clerk told her she was in the wrong line. Soooooo, she ran back and jumped in front of me. What??!! She never even looked at me. I just wanted to smack her on the head but instead I just held my breath. I finally went over to the other line as mine was taking FOREVERRRRRRRR. As I was getting done I almost fell over in the floor laughing. I heard that clerk say to the "old" lady that she was in the wrong line for returns. If she had stopped being rude and pushy for one minute she would have noticed the HUGE sign that was over one lane that says returns and exchanges. I sure wasn't going to tell her. Served her right.LOL In this case, revenge was most excellent. Why does it seem like I am always first in line and the last one out of the store. It is so frustrating. No matter what I do, I always seems to be last. I always get behind the woman that has a whole buggy of tiny pieces of flower parts or a whole buggy of clearance junk or glass stuff that has to be wrapped in paper.

I wish that Hobby Lobby and other stores for that matter could have up ropes so everyone had to form one line (like they do at the commissary-as military wives understand). Then the next register that opens would take the next person in line. Wouldn't that be fair? Is that too much to ask? I guess it is.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and to those that wish to be. I know that I am very blessed to have two wonderful boys. They are my life. They add spice to every day!!

My family and I went to early church this morning and then had an early lunch before the crowds could hit. It has been a gorgeous day. This afternoon I made a cake. I think it is called Sheath cake. I always want to call it sheet cake. Whatever it is, it should really be called "The Best Chocolate Cake Ever" cake. My family has made it for years but I have taken a liking to it in the last few. Can you say "YummOH"??!!

Allergies Allergies Go Away

We have been suffering from allergies in our house. We have tried allergy medicines but none of them really seem to work. The side effects seem worse than the benefits so I guess we will just have to suffer until the stuff in the air settles. We are having a beautiful spring. I can hardly believe how cool and nice it has been this year. The roses in our backyard are beautiful again this year. I will have to post another picture. I think everything is blooming right now. Allergies allergies go away. Please????!!!!

Anyone have a good cough remedy? One of my sons who suffers the worst will cough literally all night in his sleep. Well, guess who else hears him cough all night? Yep, that would be me. So I am pooped. I don't know how he isn't a walking zombie all day. I know I am. I even admit that I tried that trick of vick's on the bottom of his feet. Um, no luck. If you know of something that actually works for a cough please leave me a comment!!

Cloudy Days

Today is cloudy and I love cloudy days!! Life just seems calmer to me for some reason. Years ago I heard one of my relatives say that people that like cloudy days have something mentally wrong with them.LOL Well, call me crazy!! I love cloudy days...

Yesterday I went to Walmart to get the stuff I always buy at Walmart. All the cheap brand stuff I can't get anywhere else. I have really grown to dislike going in there mostly because I end up spending too much and the fact that if I want to check out without waiting 30 minutes, I have to check myself out. And well, frankly it still takes me 30 minutes by the time I find those dandly little bar codes and the machine rejects all of the stuff that weighs too little for the bagging thing to realize that it is in the bag and that the helper must be called over 47 times. Anyway, yesterday I went and yes I spent too much. The only shocker was that I walked up to an empty register and was greeted by a very friendly girl and left there feeling pretty good except for my own spending. I tried to behave but I "accidentally" went down the office aisle with the cool pens and stuff. Ugh. Why do I like that stuff? I like it because I can alter it and I might need it to make something cool.ha

I watched American Idol and found it pretty boring. I still think David Cook will win by a landslide. That is just my opinion.

Another Quilt

This is the quilt I made for my youngest son. The size is just perfect. I got it done just in the nick of time. I always sew the binding on by machine and then I sew it to the backside of the quilt by hand to finish it off. It is really very therapeutic. I was finishing secretly the morning of his birthday. I tend to get things done better under pressure. When he took it out of the bag and gave it a big hug I knew he loved it...

It is the dreaded time of year when I am going through the kids clothes and my clothes too. I should have done it already but the weather has been very cool here and I won't even get into the rain and tornadoes we have had. ugh Anyway, I am going through the boys clothes first and I can't believe how little they can wear from last year. Wow!! Now as for me.bahhaha I don't even want to go in there. I know I should be thankful for the clothes I have and I am for sure. I just hate going in there and seeing what icky stuff I have or the things I can no longer get into. I am sure they shrunk just hanging in my closet . That does happen you know. I know I need some dresses and I don't know if it is just me but it's especially hard to find a normal nonfrumpy dress beside those little teenie sundresses which EVERYONE sells. You know as for skirts, why do that only make ones with that little string waist band. It might as well not have one. Oh well, maybe I can put it off for a few more days. There's more rain in the forecast...

Woohoo. Our school's fun fair was friday night and it's over!! The whole basket thing is done for this year. It was fun but a lot of work. I don't know how the coordinators get the whole thing organized. One basket keeps me busy. My other son also had his birthday this weekend so it's been pretty busy around here. Having a cold stinks

Last week my son came down with a nasty cold. Well, guess who has it now? Having a cold really stinks. Why do I always have to get it? Could it be that I have been hacked on a million times? The weather has been so weird here so I guess that is what started the whole thing. It was hot then cold then hot then cold. You know I think the worst thing about having a cold is when you try to sleep. I prop my head up and my nose stops up on one side. Then I flip and I can breath for a few wonderful minutes. Then the other side stops up. It is so frustrating. I guess I shouldn't complain. At least I have some OTC meds to take. Now if one of them would just work...

Birthdays

We are celebrating birthdays in our house again. This is a quilt that I made for my oldest son. It is bigger than the small ones that I have made for him before. He has loved cars all of his life. I quilted the background with verigated thread so it looks like fire. The thread changes from different colors of yellows, oranges, reds, and black. It looks really cool!! I am also trying to finish up a special one for my younger son. Their birthdays are only two weeks apart. I have it quilted already and the binding is sewn on but I have to sit down and finish hand sewing the binding to the back side. I like to do this by hand. It can be very therapuetic. The trick is getting in the mood to work on it and have this coincide with when he is asleep so it'll be a surprise. Well, sort of a surprise considering his brother has already gotten his...LOL It is hard being the little brother and having your birthday 2 weeks after big brother. It must also be hard being the little brother and seeing the things that big brother gets that you aren't quite old enough to get...Oh my...

Sorry I have not been blogging in a while. I have been busy trying to put together a basket for a school funraiser and it pretty much takes up my time these days it seems. I ran around yesterday trying to buy the basket and had to pick up a donation. Thankfully things seem to come together at the last minute. I have been a little peeved as the parents in my son's class have not been very supportive. I finally sent a last call "HeLP" email and a few responded anyway. One lady is now helping me get a few business donations which is wonderful as I do not like going out and asking for donations. I have done it many times now but I don't like it. She seems to be very good at it. Our class basket theme is chocolate. I have to come up with a cute name for it. Have any ideas? It is mostly chocolate with little extras such as: bowling gift card, candles and some other items. I will need to incorporate these things in somehow. I am just not sure what to call it. Maybe I should call it the Shannon's Chocolate basket.ha Afterall I seem to be doing all the work.ugh Oh well, I say I will never do this again and here I am doing it again. The last time I put together a chocolate basket it was auctioned off for about $300. As you can see they raise a lot of money for school. I really do have fun making it and putting it together but I need the parents to be supportive. The whole evening at school is fun for the kids and we always have fun attending. I am just glad I don't have to run a game all night. The fun continues and I turn the basket in next Friday night. Wish me luck!! ;)

Award Acceptance

Yesterday, after many errands for the day, I met up with my mother for lunch. I met her at a hair salon so we could go and enjoy a lunch together. Something our busy lives doesn't always allow for. I was standing there waiting for her to get done and she was bragging on me to her beautician about how many wonderful things I make, my beautiful quilts and how creative I am. Thank goodness for mothers right?! All of the sudden her beautician blurted out, "Well it's easy to do when you don't have a job!!" She might as well have screamed it from the mountain tops. Geez lady why don't you just scream it over the intercom, I am sure you must have one in your pocket. Oh, wait your voice is loud enough without one.LOL

I proceeded to tell her that my job is to stay at home and I take care of my children. I am sure that she was very appreciative of that fact. I fully expected that I would shortly be walking the red carpet to receive my award.

I am proud to be a stay at home mom and take care of my boys.

Right now this is my life and although it may not always be glamorous, I love that I can watch out closely for my boys and help celebrate the little things. Oh, and that I can be creative and make beautful things(Ahh, it's nice to be bragged on)...

It's a little stressful but a lot of fun. I want a kitten so badly that I could just just just AAAAaahhhhhhh. I have wanted a kitten my whole life. My grandparents who lived in the country always had them and I always had my favorite. Well, I don't think it will be happening for me any time soon. My husband is so allergic to cats that when he is around one or anywhere one has existed he has a complete allergic meltdown. I could just cry I want one so bad. Don't they make a shot for that or something? I guess I need my husband more than I need a cat but I really really really want a kitten!!

It feels good to be back to stamping. I recently got this SU stamp set so I just had to make a card. I saw one similar on another blog but this is my version. It looks so much like this cute little ornament I got in a quilt store in Lawrence, Kansas on our Thanksgiving trip. After I made these cards I wish I had used a zig zag stitch on them. I went back and changed one card and it was pretty easy except for that nice little brad. You can see it better if you click on the picture. I really love to combine card making and sewing...

Wow, I couldn't believe it this morning when I turned on the radio and there was no more Christmas music. I was kind of sad but then I have heard the same songs about a million times. Like that Clay Aiken one. I still miss it though.

It's almost time to take down the tree. That seems weird too but the fact that we buy a real one every year means we may all breath better soon. This tree really smells strong of pine. I love looking at the lights while sitting in the dark room at night. Did I mention it really smells? Phew... We've always gone tree hunting every year since the boys were little but the tree place we have been going to since we moved here doesn't even take you out on the back of a tractor so we may just have to go fake next year. I think the boys are old enough that hopefully they won't miss a real tree too much. Especially if they can breath better right?

Why is it in the winter I am always freezing? Our house never seems that warm and I look puffy from always wearing long underwear under my clothes. My feet are always cold too. I guess that could explain why I have this rotten cold. Yea!! I'm just glad we aren't traveling this season. We are now expecting snow after the ice is finally melting. Guess we'll drag out those sleds. Brrrr.

Toilet Plunging

I was reading "Sanity Check" by Marva, see my favorite blogs on the right. I just had to laugh. When I get the dreaded announcement in our house that a toilet "just doesn't seem to be working", I just want to call it a day. Why is it that I can never get that darn plunger to work? Like her, I sometimes have to leave it for hours (or days) until my husband can come home and do the dirty deed. I am sure he really appreciates it too. "Hi dear, welcome home, yes this is the plunger I am holding, If you don't mind...?", "What's that?", "Why can't I do it myself for once?", "OH, but dear most wonderful husband, we know how much you enjoy it, you're so good at it!!", "What dear?", "Uh, dear, don't forget, there are young children in the house...". Guess I will never learn to use that thing. Good thing we have 3 bathrooms...
